When riding a motorcycle, we are always taught safe riding
techniques to avoid falling or having an accident. However, rarely are we
taught how to safely fall from the motorcycle.
Indeed, it is best to avoid things that could cause us to fall
while riding. However, it doesn't hurt to equip ourselves with safe falling
techniques.
Because every rider must be prepared for the risk of falling while
riding. Even great racers on the MotoGP circuit have experienced falls known as
highside (thrown off the motorcycle) or lowside (sliding on the asphalt).
To minimize the negative impact on our body condition, there are
special safe falling techniques that can be employed when the situation of
falling from the motorcycle is unavoidable.
There are 3 techniques that need to be remembered when encountering an accident or falling from a motorcycle.
Firstly, Release the Motorcycle
Perform the technique of disengaging from the vehicle. If you start losing balance, it is advisable to immediately release your grip on the handlebar and let the motorcycle fall. This approach can help avoid the risk of being dragged by the motorcycle and prevent serious injuries.
Secondly, Roll to the Left
When experiencing a fall from the motorcycle, try to
roll towards the left side of the road. While rolling, fold your arms to
protect your chest and direct your arms towards your chin to shield your body.
This can prevent dislocation of arm joints or fractures caused by attempting to
cushion the fall. Remember to always bear this technique in mind and apply it
in such situations.
Thirdly, Do not stand up immediately
After experiencing a fall, refrain from attempting to
stand up immediately. First, check the body parts that came into contact with
the asphalt when you fell from the motorcycle. Move each joint slowly to
examine for any pain or stiffness resulting from the fall. Also, pay attention
to your breathing to assess your body's condition and determine if there are
any serious injuries. If you sense any severe injuries, seek medical assistance
promptly or visit the nearest hospital to receive appropriate care from medical
professionals.
Always prioritize safety while riding on the road, obey traffic
regulations, and wear safety gear such as a helmet, jacket, long pants, shoes,
and gloves to reduce the risk of injury during accidents.
