Why is Hydrogen-Powered Car Still Not Popular? Here's Hyundai's Explanation.

Hydrogen-powered cars, as one of the environmentally friendly vehicle types alongside battery-powered electric cars, are still not as popular as electric cars. Several automotive manufacturers are currently competing to develop and introduce hydrogen-fueled cars as a solution to environmental issues.

One prominent automotive manufacturer that has marketed hydrogen-powered cars is Hyundai, with their product called Hyundai Nexo. According to Chang Hwan Kim, Head of the Battery Development Center at Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) in Hyundai Kia Motors Namyang R&D Center, South Korea, Hyundai has been developing hydrogen technology for a long time and recognizes that environmental pollution is one of the major global issues today. To address this problem, Hyundai focuses on developing hydrogen-powered vehicles, including the launch of the Hyundai Nexo in 2018, with the aim of reducing environmental pollution.

In fact, Hyundai has been working on hydrogen technology for a long time, and prior to Nexo, they have also introduced other hydrogen-powered vehicles, such as the Tucson hydrogen in 2013.

However, despite these efforts, hydrogen-powered vehicles have not become the primary choice for consumers, and their popularity remains limited. Last year, Hyundai only managed to sell 10,000 units of hydrogen-powered cars.

Hyundai acknowledges that one of the reasons for the limited popularity of hydrogen-powered cars is the lack of supporting infrastructure. The limited hydrogen infrastructure makes this type of vehicle less appealing compared to electric cars. Additionally, the high price of hydrogen-powered vehicles is also a barrier for consumers. These factors make hydrogen-powered cars less flexible and less attractive to some consumers.

Nevertheless, Hyundai remains committed to continually developing and launching hydrogen-powered cars as part of their efforts to advance hydrogen technology. They believe that with time, the hydrogen vehicle market will continue to grow. To achieve this, Hyundai will continue to collaborate with governments in various countries to address infrastructure challenges and create policies that support the global development of hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Thus, Hyundai remains optimistic that the supply of hydrogen-powered vehicles will increase with the development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure and the support of government policies in various countries.
